The Hot Tire Problem
Hot tire pickup is the most common failure mode for improperly specified garage floors. When you pull into your garage immediately after highway driving, your tires are hot โ sometimes over 150ยฐF. Standard epoxy softens at those temperatures and the tire can literally peel the coating off the floor when you move the car. The fix: high-solids polyaspartic topcoat, which has dramatically better heat resistance than epoxy. Every Crete Creations installation uses polyaspartic as the finishing coat for exactly this reason.
Oil and Chemical Resistance
A properly specified polyaspartic topcoat is highly resistant to motor oil, gasoline, brake fluid, antifreeze, and most automotive chemicals. The floor needs to be non-porous โ which means a full 4-layer system applied over properly diamond-ground concrete. The coating acts as a sealed membrane that prevents chemicals from penetrating the slab.
Dropped Tools and Impact
No floor coating is scratch-proof. But a properly cured 100% solids epoxy base coat with polyaspartic topcoat is significantly more impact-resistant than bare concrete or low-build coatings. Dropped hand tools typically leave scuffs that clean up. Heavy impact from large tools can chip any floor.
Missouri Freeze-Thaw Cycles
This is the one most homeowners don't think about. Missouri's dramatic temperature swings put coatings under constant stress. A brittle coating will microcrack over time as the slab expands and contracts. Polyaspartic's superior flexibility compared to standard epoxy is a real performance advantage in our climate.
