Day 1: Preparation
The first day is almost entirely surface preparation. Industrial diamond grinding equipment profiles every square foot of the slab. Cracks are filled and repaired. The moisture vapor barrier is applied. This is the most labor-intensive part of the process โ and the most important. Day 1 typically runs 4โ8 hours depending on garage size and concrete condition.
Day 2: Coating Application
100% solids epoxy base coat is applied to the diamond-ground surface. While it's still in its working window, vinyl decorative flakes are broadcast 100% coverage โ wall to wall. A grout coat is applied to lock the flakes in place. The high-solids polyaspartic topcoat is applied as the finishing layer. Day 2 typically runs 4โ6 hours depending on system and size.
Cure Times
- Walk-on: 24 hours after topcoat application
- Light use (moving items back in): 48 hours
- Vehicle traffic: 72 hours
- Full hardness: 5โ7 days
What Extends the Timeline
Significant concrete damage requiring extensive repair, moisture issues requiring additional mitigation, large square footage, cold temperatures slowing cure, and complex layouts with multiple rooms. Arturo assesses all of these at the free consultation and gives you an accurate timeline before any work begins. Use the calculator to estimate your project costs.
