Water-Based Epoxy — Entry Level
Water-based epoxy is what you find in most box stores. It's easy to apply, dries quickly, and looks decent at first. The problem: it contains a significant amount of water as a carrier. When the water evaporates during cure, the coating shrinks — leaving a much thinner film than was applied. The result is a coating that wears quickly, chips easily, and typically starts failing within 1–3 years under normal garage use.
100% Solids Epoxy — Professional Standard
100% solids epoxy contains no solvents or water carriers. Every ounce you apply stays in the cured film. This produces a denser, harder, more durable base coat that bonds directly to properly diamond-ground concrete. It's more difficult to apply correctly — but it's what Crete Creations uses as the base coat on every installation because it actually works.
Metallic Epoxy — Artisan Grade
Metallic epoxy uses metallic pigments suspended in a 100% solids epoxy base. The pigments move and interact as the epoxy cures, creating organic, flowing patterns that can't be replicated. Two metallic floors done with the same colors will never look identical. Popular in luxury garages, restaurants, and high-design residential spaces.
Polyaspartic — The Right Topcoat
High-solids polyaspartic is not epoxy — it's a type of polyurea with modified chemistry that provides a UV-stable, fast-curing topcoat. Standard epoxy topcoats yellow in UV light within a year.
